Longstone GAC Notes
(Monday, September 17)
*Longstone seniors were away to Mayobridge on Saturday in ACL I and were defeated on a 1-22 to 2-13 scoreline.
*Our U-16s were in action against Glenn in the final of the All-County ‘C’ championship on Saturday in Burren. Two Glenn goals during the first quarter was a blow the boys never recovered from and at half-time Glenn led by eight points. In the 12th minute of the second period Longstone won a penalty and this was converted to leave the Stone trailing by six points, but over the next few minutes Glenn scored 1-2 to quell any notion of a Longstone comeback. As the second half wore on Glenn added several more scores to claim the title with an impressive performance. Hard luck to our U-16s who deserve much praise for reaching the final this year, but on the day came up against a very good Glenn team.
*The club’s U-10s were in action on Saturday at a tournament in Glasdrumman. The players gave their all as ever in each game and received medals for finishing runners-up in the Shield Final. Thanks to Glasdrumman for hosting the tournament and the invitation to take part.
*In the quarter-final of the senior championship Longstone will play Burren again, on Friday September 28, at 8.30pm in Pairc Esler.
*There will be a Youth Club meeting in Longstone Hall this Friday night, September 21, at 7pm and parents of primary and secondary schoolchildren are encouraged to attend for discussion about this season’s youth club.
