Longstone GAC Notes
(Sunday, September 30)
*A terrific second half performance by our senior team, and a little bit of luck in the quarter-final tie against Burren on Friday evening, put Longstone into the senior championship semi-final to be played this Sunday. Burren led 2-6 to 0-5 at half-time, but six Longstone points between the 1st and 15th minutes of the second period reduced this lead to one to set up an exciting last quarter. During the remaining time the sides fired over two points apiece as every ball was contested to the full and the intensity level could go no higher. Burren scored the next two points to lead by three, but then came an own goal to bring the sides level. And Longstone produced the aces with the last two points to achieve a remarkable victory. Good luck to our senior team in the semi-final of the championship when they play Mayobridge this Sunday at 6.30pm in Pairc Esler.
*Our U-8s took part in the Newry Shamrocks Ian McKeown Tournament on Saturday in Pairc Esler. The children were excited to play at the county ground and tried their best in their four games against fellow Down clubs. U-8 football practice tomorrow evening (Thursday) from 6.15-7.15pm in the Ambrose Sports Hall.
*There will be a Youth Club Registration Night in Longstone Hall tomorrow night (Thursday) 7-8pm and the fee is £5 per child. Youth club starts next Friday, October 12, Primary 7-8.30pm and Secondary 8.30-10pm.
