Longstone GAC Notes

*Longstone Dinner Dance/Presentation Night took place on Friday night in Longstone Hall and the guest speaker was Stephen McDonnell of Killeavy, former Armagh and Ireland player. He spoke of nurturing belief in whatever team you are part of and building on the good things of last year. Thanks to Stephen for his encouraging words and for presenting the awards. Camogie Award Winners were: Senior Most Dedicated, Celine Trainor, & Player of the Year, Erin McDowell. Camogie club Personality of the Year, Annemarie Smith. Football award winners were: Minor Most dedicated, Aidan Rogers, Trainer Padraig Fegan, Most improved, Pearse Trimble, Runner-up, John Trimble & Gareth McDowell, Player of the Year, Daithi Young & Michael Trimble; U-21 Player of the Year Kieran Rogers, Reserve Runner-up, Declan Haughian & Player of the Year (Thomas George Burden Cup), Paul Trimble; Senior Most Dedicated, Kieran Rogers, R-up, Barry Kelly & Player of the Year (Ambrose Rogers Trophy), Ryan Kelly. Clubperson of the Year was Damian Young. Finally Mark Poland was presented with his Ulster Inter-Provincial winners medal won with Ulster last year. Mark was a forward on the team.
*Ryan Kelly made his league debut for Down seniors in the first game of the season against Tyrone on Saturday night. He came on late into the second half.
*U-8, U-10 and U-12 indoor camogie continues on Wednesday evenings in Longstone from 6.30-7.30pm and all beginners are welcome. Anyone who wants to help out with these age groups should contact Ann Rogers, 07761 879024, club Children’s officer, for a vetting form if you wish to help out for the first time.
*Training continues for the club camogie teams from U-14s up to Minors on Wednesday nights from 7.30-9pm in Longstone.
*Minor Training continues on Monday and Wednesday nights in the Ambrose Sports Hall from 7.30-8.45pm. All players to attend please.
*U-14 indoor training begins next Monday the 11th and U-12 indoor practice starts on Tuesday the 12th in the Ambrose Sports Hall from 6-7.15pm for both teams.
*All players must wear a mouthguard at training.
*Senior & Reserve players membership is due and cost is £40. Please pay Dympna Rooney this Friday night at 7pm in Longstone Hall. Minor players membership also due and is £10.
*Scor Sinsear this Friday night and Longstone will compete in the Solo Singing, Recitation and Trath na gCeist (Quiz) sections in the South Down semi-final in Mayobridge, starting at 7.30pm. Good Luck to our entrants.
*Youth Club this Friday night, Primary 7-8.30pm and Secondary 8.30-10pm. Supervision rota for Primary (6.45-8.30pm) is Helena McVeigh, Pauline Rogers, Sharon Rogers, Liam Doran, Liam Barry and Aidan Poland and Secondary (8.30-10pm) is Aine Fegan, Joe Fegan and Martin Fitzpatrick. The Youth Club have their own page on Facebook containing the latest information and various photos.
*Longstone GAC presents a ‘Friday Fight Night’ on Friday, March 8, Longstone Hall and First bout at 7.30pm. Admission is £7 per ticket. Everyone welcome. For tickets please contact Cormac Poland 07720 746625 or Colin Burden 07512 263406. Live music to follow with College Green.

*The opening games of ACL I for Longstone seniors will take place on Friday, April 12, home v Downpatrick, 19th away v Liatroim, and 26th away v Rostrevor.
