Longstone GAC Notes

 (Sunday, March 03)

*U-16 and Minor football training at the Valley Rd. pitch, Monday and Wednesday nights, 7.15-8.45pm. There will be a Minor challenge game this Sunday at home to Saul and all players to be at Longstone for 11.45am. Longstone will compete in Division 3 of the All County U-16 and Minor Leagues this season. At U-16 they will play Atticall, Ballymartin, Drumclone, Mitchels, Tullylish, Shamrocks B and Glenn, and first game is Thursday, April 4. At Minor level they will come up against Atticall, Ballymartin, Bosco, Carryduff B, Dromara, Drumaness, Drumclone, Loughinisland, St John’s, St Paul’s and Teconnaught, and first game is Tuesday, April 2.

*U-10 football practice, and U-8 football training this Saturday morning from 10-11am and 11.15am-12.15pm respectively, out on the pitch at Longstone. Bring your football boots.

*Minor and U-16 camogie training is now on Monday evenings from 7-8pm at the Valley Rd pitch.

*No Youth Club this Friday night.

*Fight Night in Longstone Hall this Friday night and the first bout starts at 7.30pm sharp. Live music to follow with College Green. Admission by ticket only.

*Clean-up on Saturday at Longstone Hall from 12.30pm.

*We wish our club-mate Mark Poland well this year in his role as Down team captain and know that he will give good example to his team-mates throughout the year. Also well done to Mark, who was part of the Ulster panel which recently won the Inter-provincial title with a final victory over Munster.

*Well done Kieran Rooney and Conor Doran who recently completed a Level 1 football coaching course.

*Well done to St Louis, including Longstone’s Daithi Young and Gareth McDowell, who won their McLarnon Cup semi-final last week against St Patrick’s, Downpatrick. The final will take place on Monday, March 18, against St Michael’s, Lurgan.

*Hard luck to St Columban’s, including Longstone camogs Cliodhna Rooney, Clare Cunningham, Amy and Catherine Rooney, Danielle Corrigan and Rhiannon Rooney, who were defeated by the Leinster champions in their All Ireland Junior D semi-final on Saturday. Also in camogie, Niamh Rogers is part of the Down minor panel for this year and they played their opening group game in the All Ireland B Championship on Saturday, an away defeat to Antrim.
