*The senior team were away from home on Friday to Castlewellan and won 1-10 to 0-8 on a wet night for football. The only goal of the game was a well taken effort by Ciaran Doran to finish off a good move which started deep in the Longstone half. So halfway through the league, Longstone have played 9 games and have 10 points.
*On Monday of last week Longstone U-14s travelled to Kilkeel to play Baileglas in the last game of the league. The boys wanted a victory to force a play-off with Newry Bosco and a large crowd were in attendance anticipating an exciting game. The game started off tentatively, but the Stone soaked up some initial pressure, and gradually began to tally up the scores, to lead comfortably coming up to half-time. The home team enjoyed some success before the break, to give Longstone something to think about at the break. In the 2nd half longstone continued to play a great brand of skilfull team football, to the delight of the away support, and in the end ran out comfortable winners. This was a fitting end to the league for a group of boys who improved as the league progressed. Let’s hope they can improve to another level to overcome a physically strong Bosco side in the league decider. Thanks again to the large longstone support whose attendance was much appreciated throughout the league campaign by both players and management. U-14 panel on the night, Chris Burden, Lee Haughian, Eoin Rogers (capt.), Daithi Rogan, Tyrone Fegan, Finn McElroyBanjo, Joseph Young, Dean Haughian, Tyrone Poland, Conor Shields, Saran McElroy-Banjo, Jordan Doran, Carl Haughian, Gerard Gilmore, Ronan Harrison, Mathew McAstocker, Andrew McComb, Callum McDowell, Gareth Fitzpatrick. Congratulations to Dean Haughian and Tyrone Poland on their successful selection onto the South Down Development Squad and let’s hope the excellent coaching provided at these prestigious squad sessions help the boys to become better footballers for their club as well.
