*The Ambrose Rogers Memorial 7s Tournament was played last Sunday in Longstone Park and Longstone, Ballymartin, Castlewellan, Glasdrumman, Clonduff and Clann na Banna took part. Each team played every other side and it ended up that the final was between Longstone and Clonduff which the hosts won by one point, 1-8 to 2-4. After the final Ambrose Rogers, current Down captain, presented the trophy to Conor Poland. Longstone panel was Michael Ireland, Barry Doran, Conor Doran, Eamonn Quinn, Michael Hughes, Cormac Poland, Conor Poland, Ryan Kelly, Conor Smyth, Malachy Trainor. The Clonduff panel was Jason Brown, John Fegan, Finbarr McConville, Paul McConville, Eamonn O’Reilly, Shane O’Hagan, Conor O’Hagan, John McPolin, Bernard Branagan, Shane McGreevy. Many thanks to the clubs who came to Longstone to take part in the competition in memory of Ambrose. Also a big thank-you to everyone who helped out on the day, from those who prepared and served the food to the preparation of the two reduced sized fields, and to those who attended on the day to support the event.

*Longstone’s U14 Camogs travelled to Warrenpoint last Thursday for the Quarter Final of the Shield Competition and what a display of camogie they served up on a beautiful summer’s evening.  From Aisling Trimble in goals to full-forward Aoife McDowell every one of the team gave it their all from the throw in to the final whistle.  Courtney McComb, who notched up 3 points for Longstone, was outstanding in midfield and, with the support of Ruth Collins, gave a great supply of the ball to the forward line of Louise Quinn, Danielle Corrigan and Orianna McGoey who certainly made the most of this supply adding 4-0, 2-1 and 2-0 respectively to the scoreboard.  Niamh Rogers and Etain Dundas also got their name on the score sheet adding 1-2 and 1-0.  Warrenpoint did make a strong comeback in the second half but the great defensive work of Breanna Magorrian, Katie Smith, Niamh McDowell and Cliodhna Rooney ensured a place for Longstone in next week’s semi-finals.
