*Longstone’s U-14 Camogs travelled to Kilcoo last Wednesday for the Semi-Final of the County Shield Competition and once again what a display of camogie they served up.  Right from the throw-in Longstone were on the attack and after a scramble around the Kilcoo goalmouth Aoife McDowell netted for the visitors to get them on their winning way.  Longstone’s forwards continued to put pressure on the Kilcoo defence and two magnificent ground strokes by Orianna McGoey found their way past the home goalie to leave Longstone going in at half-time with a lead of 3-0 to 0-0. The second half started pretty much as the first finished off.  Longstone continued their attacking form with Niamh Rogers sweeping up a lot of the sliotar on the half-back line and giving a great supply to her side’s forwards and Courtney McComb, Louise Quinn and Aoife McDowell capitalised on this by adding 1-1, 0-1 and 1-0 respectively to the Longstone score sheet.  Kilcoo did battle hard but any of their scoring chances were thwarted by Longstone’s full-back, Cliodhna Rooney, while at the other end of the pitch Danielle Corrigan was absolutely superb throughout the match causing a lot of problems for the home side.  She not only set up some of Longstone’s scores but she was also rewarded with a personal tally of 1-1 to ensure her team’s victory.  This was another solid team performance by Longstone and the tireless work and commitment by each and every one of the girls in all their matches has earned them a well deserved place in the County Shield Final to be held in August.

Team:  Aisling Trimble, Katie Smith, Cliodhna Rooney, Breanna Magorrian, Niamh Rogers, Niamh McDowell, Courtney McComb (1-1), Ruth Collins, Louise Quinn (0-1), Danielle Corrigan (1-1), Etain Dundas, Aoife McDowell (2-0), Orianna McGoey (2-0) Mentors: Roisin Rogers, Marty McNeill, Ann Rogers
