Longstone GAC Notes

(Sunday, January 23)

*Scor Sinsir starts this Friday night with the South Down semi-finals and Cloch Fhada will take part in the Solo singing, Recitation and Trath na gCeist categories. The venue is Mayobridge Community Hall and events are due to begin at 8pm.

*The Youth Club continues on Friday nights in Longstone Hall from 7-8.30pm for Primary and 8.30-10pm for Secondary children until the end of March. New Child Protection Rules have been introduced to all Youth Clubs as follows: ‘Children are not allowed to use mobile phones during Youth Club, Football training or Games. Anyone who brings a mobile will be required to leave it with a supervisor until the end of youth club, and children found using one will have the phone confiscated and it will be returned at hometime’. Longstone Youth Club appeal to all children to please abide by this new rule and ask parents/guardians to be understanding of these guidelines.

*Longstone GAC Dinner dance will take place this Saturday in Longstone Hall with the meal due to be served at 7.30pm. Tickets can be obtained from Dympna Rooney tonight (Wednesday) at 8pm, and cost is £15 each. The club is currently running a 500 Envelopes Draw and they will be on sale at the dinner dance. Pick out an envelope from a drum, containing a raffle ticket costing anything from 1p to 500p, and pay that amount. The winner of the Draw will be announced at the end of February.

*Clean-up in the Hall on Sunday at 12pm and all help appreciated.

*Football practice arrangements: U8s continue on Monday 6.45-8pm/ U10s start next Wednesday, February 2, from 6.15-7.30pm/ U12s start Wednesday, February 9, from 7.30-8.30pm and U16s continue on Tuesday 7.00-8 30pm. All practice sessions in the Ambrose Rogers Sports Hall.

*Full committee meeting next Tuesday at 9pm.

*Thanks to everyone who helped raise £2100 for the Southern Area Hospice from the Christmas Charity game. The money was handed over last week to the charity.

*Longstone seniors have entered the Ulster League and are in Group B along with Tyrone teams Cookstown and Trillick St McCartan’s, Derry sides Banagher and Ballinderry, and the first game is next Sunday, February 6, away in Co. Cavan against Ballyhaise.
